Anorexia Nervosa

There are different types of anorexia: restrictive and purging type. On the one hand the restrictive person will achieve weight loss through restricting calories, through strict diet, excessive exercising or fasting.

The purging or bulimic anorexic type will get rid of calories through vomiting or using diuretics and laxatives.

Many people with anorexia will hear a critical voice in their head as if it is another person telling them off and punishing them. This is also known as the Anorexic Voice.

There are many different degrees of anorexia, some may not necessarily be under weight to qualify as anorexic but may have features such as poor eating rituals and beliefs as well as fear around normal weight and what constitutes a healthy and attractive body.

Here are some health consequences to anorexia nervosa:

  • Brain chemical imbalance
  • Abnormally slow heart rate

  • Dry hair
