Bulimia Nervosa

Life for someone with bulimia is like an ongoing battle between the desire to be thin and the overwhelming compulsion to eat whatever you can get your hands on. Eating so much it almost feels like you are to going to explode.

The fear felt post-binge then leads to purging to get rid of the calories. The urge becomes overwhelming and the behaviour gets out of control.

Bulimia will vary in severity and frequency. The use of diuretics, slimming pills and laxative is also very common.

Here are some health consequences to bulimia nervosa:

  • Inflammation and possible rupture of the oesophagus
  • Tooth decay
  • Electrolyte imbalances that can lead to irregular heartbeat
  • Chronic irregular bowel movement
  • Dehydration and peptic ulcers
